The Importance of the Pineal Gland

Table of Contents

When you hear the word “gland,” there is a very good chance that the part of the body that it is referring to is going to be an important one.

Unfortunately, people are not as well versed in the different glands in the body as they are in the major organs. This is partially because there are many, many small glands that perform small functions all throughout the body, such as sweat glands.

As the name suggests, these glands work with sweat. However, there are other glands that are harder to discern the function of. One of these glands is the Pineal Gland. In fact, it’s very likely that you have never heard of this gland before.

This gland is actually very important to the body, especially for hormones that help to regulate sleep. If you value your sleep as much as you should, you will want to take care of your Pineal Gland and make sure it is decalcified!

What is Pineal Gland Calcification?

Thankfully, the Pineal is usually very self-sufficient and doesn’t need much extra care from you to keep it in good condition. Although, there is a certain condition that can happen to your Pineal Gland, known as Pineal Gland Calcification.

Generally, “calcification” refers to the hardening of a tissue or another bodily material. When a gland has become calcified, it doesn’t function as well as it should.

This can cause many, many problems for your entire body, making it all the more important for you to understand how you can heal Pineal Gland Calcification.

But, before you can begin to understand how to reverse the damage that calcification of the pineal gland causes, you first need to understand what the pineal gland’s function in the body is.

The pineal gland’s job is fairly straightforward, compared to many other glands in the area.

Pineal Gland Function

The pineal gland is a curious little gland that is located deep within your brain, between the two hemispheres. Its name comes from its shape, which is similar to that of a pinecone, and within it, are the aptly named cells of pinealocytes, which produce the hormone known as melatonin.

With a nickname of “the third eye,” the pineal gland is one that is the center of myth and speculation alike. Part of this is due to it being one of the last organs in the brain to be discovered by the French philosopher, Rene Descartes.

Descartes believed that the pineal gland played a huge role in “sensation, imagination, memory, and the causation of bodily movements.”

Descartes also called the pineal gland the “principle seat of the soul.”

In today’s time, where we understand the function of the pineal gland a bit more, you can actually see where Descartes got some of this belief from.

In the book, The Seat of the Soul, author and modern scientist Gary Zukov says the pineal gland is used to interface our consciousness with that of the Divine.

In my own meditation practice, I use the pineal gland as a “higher mind” stillness point for a place of calm. I also “see” many useful things while working in and focusing on my Pineal Center.

For useful tips on how I meditate and “see” and “hear” Divine information, read: The Ancient Meditation for Reaching Higher States of Consciousness and 5 Magic Hacks for Reaching Higher States of Consciousness

The pineal gland also secretes melatonin. This is a hormone that, to oversimplify it, controls sleep patterns and regulations.

Without enough adequate sleep, sensation, imagination, and bodily movements can be impaired, which could have been how Descartes reached his conclusion of what the pineal gland does.

To go into more detail about the pineal gland’s function, you should also understand a bit more about melatonin.

Melatonin is a hormone with a primary purpose of communicating information about environmental lighting to the rest of the body. If you have heard of melatonin before, there’s a very good chance that you have heard about it being heavily related to sleep, and this is true.

Melatonin plays a crucial role in the circadian rhythm. This rhythm can be summarized as the body’s internal clock of when it is time to sleep, and when it is time to wake up. The circadian rhythm is responsible for making sure you feel tired when the sun goes down and alert when the sun is up.

Because melatonin is needed to communicate about environmental lighting, it goes hand in hand with circadian rhythms and sleep, which is why many people take melatonin as a sleep supplement.

The purpose of the pineal gland, aside from producing melatonin in the first place, is to secrete more of it when it becomes dark out. This is the primary and most important scientifically known function of the pineal gland.

Other Functions of the Pineal Gland

Aside from producing melatonin for the body, the pineal gland has several other functions that it performs to a lesser extent.

Much of this research has been done on mice, but not as much on humans, so that should be kept in mind. The pineal gland has been linked to the metabolism of bones, particularly in post-menopausal women and osteoporosis associated with that.

It is also linked to mental health, mostly because of the pineal gland’s connection with sleep and sleep’s connection with mental health. The pituitary gland, predominantly known for producing growth hormones, is also connected to the pineal gland.

The pineal gland has also been shown to alter some drug metabolism, such as with addictions to cocaine and psychostimulants.

Finally, the pineal gland has been shown to be connected to aging, as a function of the gland declines with age. As people age, they sleep less, and this might be due to this little gland.

What Causes Pineal Gland Calcification?

Now that you understand exactly how indispensable the pineal gland is to the rest of the body, you should now begin to learn about what causes the calcification of the gland.

decalcify pineal gland

Most of the brain is protected by the blood-brain barrier, a particular barrier that isolates the brain. The pineal gland is not part of this, and instead gets a supply of blood flow only second to the kidneys.

Because of this, there is a risk for fluoride to develop in the pineal gland, as found by a British scientist named Jennifer Luke. This accumulation of fluoride is known as Pineal Gland Calcification.

The primary culprit for this is going to be old age. It is only natural that the body changes as it ages, and one of the changes that the body undergoes is having the pineal gland calcify.

Chances are that an elderly person is going to have a calcified pineal gland, and this is a relatively natural part of life.

Something else to consider is that because much of the pineal gland’s calcification comes from fluoride, among other minerals. So you should be avoiding as much fluoride as you can to prevent it from building up.

Foods that are extremely high in fluoride are going to increase the rate at which your pineal gland will calcify.

Aside from these, there are not many other causes that will make for a calcified pineal gland.

With that being said, you should now begin to learn more about ways that you can minimize and altogether avoid the calcification of your pineal gland through your fluoride intake.

What Foods Calcify the Pineal Gland?

Because fluoride is one of the main components of calcification in the pineal gland, it would make sense that foods rich in fluoride, as well as fluoride toothpaste are the culprits.

Fluoride toothpaste calcifies the Pineal Gland

Now that you know this, you will be able to avoid fluoridated toothpaste and certain foods. Thankfully, there aren’t too many foods that contain a lot of fluoride in them, so you won’t have too much to worry about with this.

First, you should minimize your intake of black tea. This type of tea has just under 10% of a man’s daily intake for fluoride, and about 13% of a woman’s daily intake.

It’s really only black tea that you have to avoid, since the high fluoride concentration comes from the leaves, rather than the water the tea was brewed with.

Other types of tea will have notably less fluoride in them, or even none at all, so if you still need your tea fix at the end of the day, you will be able to get it.

Avoid Fluoride and Certain Types of Tea & Seafood for Pineal Gland Health

You should also avoid canned crab. Canned crab will have about 5% of a man’s daily intake for fluoride and about 7% for a woman. In general, seafood is something you should avoid, as they will all have some degree of fluoride in them, but canned crab has the most out of them all.

Canned crab contains high levels of fluoride that calcifies the pineal gland.
Canned crab contains high levels of fluoride.

Oysters, for comparison, have about .05 milligrams every three ounces and fish have about .02 milligrams in each three-and-a-half ounce serving. One serving of canned crabs, on the other hand, has about 0.21 milligrams of fluoride in it.

Finally, baked potatoes contain fluoride as well. Usually, these will be Russet potatoes with the skin intact, so if you are really in the mood for a potato, you can skin it first. These potatoes will have about 3.5% of a man’s daily intake for fluoride, whereas it will be closer to 5% for women.

All potatoes are going to have some degree of fluoride in them, but Russet potatoes appear to have the most in them, meaning that if you want to protect your pineal gland, you should lower your intake of potatoes.

Is Pineal Gland Calcification Normal?

Unfortunately, calcification of the pineal gland is normal. It can be considered a normal part of the aging process, which is unfortunate because the elderly need their sleep and melatonin.

Thankfully, the extreme need by the body for the pineal gland decreases once puberty is finished, and the gland simply becomes a producer of melatonin.

In fact, they did a study of about 500 people. They were tested for the prevalence of pineal gland calcification as they went for implant dental therapy.

Just under 60% of both males and females had calcification going on. If this many people, out of 500 people, had calcification happening, but were not bothered by it, it would be safe to assume that as unfortunate as it is, it is simply a normal part of the aging process.

However, if you’d like to heal pineal gland calcification, there are ways that you can decalcify and detoxify the pineal gland.

Decalcifying the Pineal Gland is a great way to slow the aging process and activate your clairvoyance through the use of your Third Eye Chakra!

Aging and Pineal Gland Calcification

The pineal gland’s effects on aging have been thoroughly studied. Melatonin is a potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory that helps protect your brain from diseases such as Alzheimer’s, schizophrenia, ALS, Multiple Sclerosis, and Huntington’s disease.

A calcified pineal gland cannot secrete and regulate melatonin levels efficiently. This contributes to poor quality of sleep and lack of mental clarity.

Researchers have found calcified pineal glands result in low melatonin levels, which is a biomarker of aging. When they took young, not yet calcified pineal glands and grafted them to aging animals, their life spans were significantly increased!

So, science has shown that decalcifying the pineal gland can slow the aging process! Woo-hoo!

The BEST Way to Decalcify the Pineal Gland

No matter if you are looking to decalcify the pineal gland to help Open Your Third Eye (The Fastest Way!), slow the aging process, or you are doing it in the hopes that you will finally get that good night’s sleep that you have been longing for, there are several ways that you can go about doing so.

1 – Pineal Gland Decalcification Diet – Eat Organic Whole Foods

It is possible to slow the rate at which the pineal gland calcifies by eating a decalcification diet.

Generally, calcification is sped up through a poor diet, and while it is not completely irreversible or avoidable, you can slow it down.

The most important thing you will need to do is focus on a diet that limits junk food and eat foods that support the pineal gland directly.

2 – Take Chlorella & Spirulina to Remove Fluoride from the Pineal Gland

Chlorella and Spirulina are wonderful for removing metal toxins, such as fluoride, from the body! They are also packed with vitamins, minerals, and other antioxidants.

This means that you will stay even healthier when you eat these foods. You can also try an Organic Raw Chlorella/Spirulina Supplement!

3 – Chanting, Singing, or Using a Third Eye Singing Bowl Helps Heal your Pineal Gland

Certain sounds have been shown to cause the pineal gland to resonate. This is due to the phenomenon of “sympathetic resonance”.

Sounds that specifically resonate with and activate the Pineal Gland Third Eye region are 936 Hz Solfeggio Tones, or a 432 Hz Tibetan Singing Bowl.

TOPFUND 432 Hz Indigo A Note Crystal Singing Bowl 8 inch Third Eye Chakra with Heavy Duty Carrying Case and Singing Bowl Mallets
  • This gorgeous indigo third eye singing bowl is handcrafted grinding and polishing tuned to 432hz pitch perfect A note 4th octave. You can also chant the sound, “OHM”, which has been used by many ancient cultures to activate the pineal gland third eye region.

4 – Eating or Taking Wheatgrass Removes Fluoride from the Pineal Gland

Wheatgrass is also great for removing metals from the body! It is a great source of protein, chlorophyll, fiber, vitamins and minerals!

You can find wheatgrass at most local health food stores that you can juice or add to smoothies or soups, or you can supplement with an Organic Wheatgrass Powder, such as Anthony’s.

Anthony's Organic Wheatgrass Powder, 8 oz, Grown in USA, Whole Leaf, Gluten Free, Non GMO
  • Organic Wheatgrass Powder, Whole Leaf, USA Grown, California Packed
  • Batch Tested and Verified Gluten Free
  • Plant based source of protein, chlorophyll, fiber, vitamins and minerals
  • Non-GMO, Vegan, Non-Irradiated – No artificial colors, fillers or additives
  • Blend into smoothies and juices, sprinkle on foods, add it to desserts or mix it with water to take a shot!

5 – Iodine Nourishes & Heals the Pineal Gland

You should also look at foods that are rich in iodine. Iodine is important for the entire body. Deficiencies in iodine can mean that there is room for fluoride, which is elementally similar, to take its place.

By increasing your intake of iodine, you will be able to block the places where fluoride would typically settle, reducing and preventing the calcification rate of the pineal gland.

This is good for people who want to keep the pineal gland as healthy as possible for as long as possible.

Iodine can be found in foods such as: Spinach, broccoli, seaweed (kelp), and fish.

There are also some great iodine supplements if you do not want to eat any of those foods.

I personally take and recommend World Organic’s Liqui-Kelp Daily Iodine. It is basically tasteless and only requires you to take four drops per day.

6 – Add Oregano Oil to your Pineal Gland Decalcification Diet

You can also add some oregano oil to your meals. It supports immune function, which helps with pineal gland decalcification. It is a must-have for cold and flu season as well!

Oregano oil is a great flavoring and can easily be added to meals. You can also simply take oregano oil with water. Either way oregano oil is a great food that helps keep your pineal gland happy and healthy.

As always, I look for organic brands from companies I know and trust. I use so many of Garden of Life’s amazing products and have never been disappointed!

They make wonderful Organic Oil of Oregano Seasonal Drops that are amazingly priced, organic, alcohol-free and of course, Non-GMO!

7 – Beets, Beet Juice, & Beet Root Powder Remove Fluoride & Decalcify the Pineal Gland

Finally, you should look at beets and beet juice. With the characteristic red color of the beets, it will be easy to find them.

Beets help to balance calcium intake and remove metals from the body, including fluoride.

This means that they will be a wonderful addition to your diet, if you want to decalcify your pineal gland.

Beets are delicious roasted, fried, pickled, or raw! And beet juice is delicious all on its own!

Even my one and three-year-old looove roasted beets with butter and salt!

My husband and I also take this Organic Beet Root Powder for an extra nitric oxide boost of energy in the mornings or before workouts.

Naturevibe Botanicals Beet Root Powder (1 lb)
  • Beet Root Powder 1lb by Naturevibe Botanicals comes in a resealable pouch to maintain its freshness throughout.
  • The beets are dehydrated and then ground into powder form
  • Red beet powder can be used in gravies, sauces, soups, or to provide color in any recipe
  • Naturevibe Botanicals Beet root powder might be a great source of nitric oxide and can be used as nitric oxide booster or a pre-workout.

8 – Stop Adding More Fluoride to your Pineal Gland – Switch to an All-Natural Fluoride-Free Toothpaste

Obviously, a huge contributor to fluoride in the body and calcification of the pineal gland is fluoride toothpaste.

If you are worried about the health of your teeth using non-fluoridated toothpaste, an article by FluorideAlert.Org is an interesting read, stating that, “tooth decay rates have “precipitously declined” in all western countries, irrespective of whether the country ever fluoridated its water.”

Also, new key evidence is coming to light in books such as Cure Tooth Decay by Ramiel Nagel, which describes how to limit store bought grains and eating a healthy diet high in fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E & K) from oils such as Olive and Cod Liver can help your teeth re-mineralize!

My favorite natural toothpaste I’ve tried is My Magic Mud Cinnamon Clove Flavor.

My Magic Mud Activated Charcoal Toothpaste Cinnamon Clove (4 oz)
  • Clinically proven by real geeks to safely whiten and polish teeth
  • Hipster approved, vegan and certified natural by Europeans
  • No Fluoride. No SLS. No Glycerine. No GMO. No Gluten. No B.S.
  • Kid-friendly, safe if swallowed by humans. Not recommended for aliens or pets.

It contains activated charcoal, which is also great at detoxing the body. It is, however, black. (No, it doesn’t turn your teeth black, but does turn your toothbrush black).

So, if the idea of a black toothpaste puts you off, another brand of fluoride-free toothpaste I really like is Hello Fluoride-Free Antiplaque & Whitening Toothpaste.

Hello brand does still sell some fluoride toothpastes, so read the label carefully to make sure you are getting the fluoride-free version!

9 – Remove Fluoride From Your Drinking Water – Use a Proper Water Filter

Many cities add Synthetic Fluoride to the water supply full of impure industrial byproducts such as arsenic.

Therefore, it is imperative to filter your drinking water to keep these chemical toxins out of your body and out of your Pineal Gland.

If you are using a water filter pitcher like Brita, you may want to consider switching to an AquaGear Water Filter Pitcher.

Aquagear Water Filter Pitcher
  • Removes 20X more contaminants than a traditional pitcher. Third-party tested to filter lead, chlorine, microplastics, PFOA, PFOS, and more contaminants other filters miss.
  • Keeps good minerals in. Other filters strip out minerals. Aquagear targets nasty contaminants without removing healthy minerals like calcium and magnesium.
  • Last 3X longer. Each Aquagear filter lasts 120 gallonsthree times longer than most standard filters.
  • Filter recycling included. Never throw another water filter in the trash again. We send you a postage-paid label so you can return your filter for recycling and keep it out of the landfill.
  • Filter Media Made in USA. The Aquagear filter media is made in an ISO 9000 facility.

***From the manufacturer: AquaGear REMOVES 2000% MORE CONTAMINANTS THAN BRITA, INCLUDING FLUORIDE, LEAD, CHROMIUM 6, CHLORAMINES, MERCURY, AND CHLORINE.

A five stage filter with 2 micron pores, including a lead/fluoride filter, protects you and your family from contaminants that other filters miss. The filter does all this while keeping healthy trace minerals like calcium and magnesium in your water, which ZeroWater and Reverse Osmosis systems will strip out.***

AquaGear filters are also rigorously tested to NSF Standards!

Or you may want to check out EpicWater’s Under Sink Water Filter System, which is also NSF certified and filters out 99.99% of contaminants.

10 – Turmeric Significantly Reduced Pineal Gland Fluoride Levels in Mice!

One promising study was done on the effects of curcumin (found in Turmeric), in mice with high levels of fluoride present. In the 30 day study, curcumin was shown to significantly reduce the toxic levels of fluoride present in the brains of the mice!

Turmeric is also great for inflammation and is high in iron. Organic Turmeric Powder can be found at many health food stores and is a popular seasoning used in traditional Indian cooking.

I personally use Feel Good Brand’s Turmeric Powder, and add it to my smoothies. It blends right in and you can’t even taste it!

FGO Organic Turmeric Powder w/Curcumin, 100% Raw from India, 16oz, Packaging May Vary (Pack of 1)
  • ORGANIC TURMERIC POWDER (CURCUMA LONGA) – 16oz/453g Resealable Bag (1 Pound)
  • IMPORTED FROM INDIA – This bag contains certified organic, turmeric powder harvested from turmeric plants in India.
  • HEALTHY & DELICIOUS – Add some spice to your day with our organic turmeric root powder. This easily recognizable, vibrant yellow-orange powder has long been a staple in South Asian and Middle Eastern cuisines. Commonly used for curries, the root vegetable is also great in soups and stews, or sprinkled over some scrambled eggs.

  • LOVE IT OR WE BUY IT – We dont think you should pay for products that you dont love. If you arent enjoying our products, simply let us know and we will refund your order – its as easy as that!

I sometimes also add it to soups, or simply take a spoonful of powder followed by water.
