I never suspected I might have something known as “leaky gut syndrome” when I had nausea, diarrhea, pain in my joints, and physical exhaustion every day. After all, a LOT of people (including doctors) don’t believe leaky gut to actually be a real thing!
Instead of assuming that I had leaky gut, I thought maybe I was pregnant! (Mostly, because of the nausea!) But the timeline didn’t track for pregnancy.
So… I did what I always do when I have a scary health issue. I prayed and then meditated for answers. Maybe this isn’t a popular way to do things, but it has worked very well for me for 5 years.
Click to find out more about the Ancient Meditation Technique I use to “see” and “hear” Divine Guidance.
And, drumroll please… The Divine Guidance that came through during this particular meditation was “leaky gut”.
So, I hunted down the symptoms of leaky gut, as well as a great diet plan and nutritional supplements to heal my leaky gut naturally.
And, it worked! Or, I wouldn’t be writing this post!
My joints feel better, my depression has lifted, my nausea is gone, and the diarrhea as well!
What is Leaky Gut?
Table of Contents
Leaky gut is defined as a condition in which the permeability of the intestinal epithelial lining has been compromised. This allows toxins, antigens, and bacteria in the lumen to enter your blood stream, thus creating what is known as “leaky gut syndrome”.
In layman’s terms, holes in your intestinal lining cause unwanted toxins, antigens, and bacteria to enter your bloodstream, which causes an allergic response by the body.
Leaky gut can also cause your body to not absorb nutrients the way it is supposed to!
Leaky Gut Signs & Symptoms
Those with leaky gut may experience symptoms such as:
- Nausea
- Diarrhea
- Headaches
- Fatigue
- Joint Pain
- Food Sensitivities
- Weight Gain
- Eczema
- Acne
Is Leaky Gut Real?
In my experience, yes. And doctors do have tests that can help determine if you have leaky gut syndrome. These tests include blood and stool analysis, as well as an Organic Acids Vitamin & Mineral Deficiencies Kit test. (Which can be performed easily at home!)
Leaky Gut 3-Day Reset Diet
Bone broth
Bone broth is high in collagen and gelatin which has been found useful in the treatment of intestinal disorders such as inflammatory bowel conditions.

I personally like this bone broth/collagen powder from Ancient Nutrition that is unflavored and easily mixes into my morning coffee!
But THE BEST supplement I found for healing my leaky gut was Ancient Nutrition’s Multi-Collagen Protein Gut Restore!
It combines most everything into one great-tasting super-dissolvable ultra-fine powder. Collagen, protein, amino acids, bone broth collagen, apple cider vinegar, probiotics, ginger, peppermint leaf and licorice root!
Along with diet changes, this was my one product I couldn’t live without for healing my leaky gut, and it was delicious!
Yogurt
Yogurt is a calcium-rich, protein packed, probiotic food that is particularly good for increasing the healthy flora in your digestive tract.
There is positive evidence that yogurt may improve gut health, reduce inflammation and strengthen intestinal barrier function.
I have trouble digesting dairy, but yogurt soothes my stomach and shows promise in benefiting those with lactose intolerance, diarrhea, high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes and even certain types of cancers
Try to pick raw, organic yogurt. Greek yogurt has a creamy thick texture and is delicious with just a drizzle of honey!
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil and any coconut product are great for your gut health. They are easy to digest fats and have been shown to positively affect the fecal microbiome.
In fact, this particular study showed virgin coconut oil to significantly increase probiotic bacteria in rats.
My new favorite way to take it is with this squeezable virgin organic coconut oil, which is also great for using on the skin!
MCT Oil
You can also use MCT Oil (derived from coconut oil) which mixes great in coffees, smoothies, or tea and is liquid at room temperature.
I like this brand of organic MCT Oil that is very affordable and again, from a brand I trust and use often.
Avocados
Avocados are extremely nutrient-dense. Besides being delicious and creamy, they’re an excellent source of healthy fats, and nearly 20 vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients.
Besides that, avocados are high in prebiotic fiber, a fiber which feeds and nourishes the healthy bacteria in your gut microbiome.
Prebiotics
While healing my leaky gut, I also took this organic prebiotic fiber supplement made from superfoods to feed the probiotics and eliminate toxins.
I always choose organic, made from whole food supplements whenever possible. After all, health is your greatest wealth! And, this prebiotic fiber is from Garden of Life, a brand I use often and trust.
Probiotics
These are super uber important in maintaining a healthy gut, digestion, brain health, energy levels, immune system, etc. etc.
Do not ignore probiotics when you are healing your leaky gut! And, I also recommend continuing to take probiotics indefinitely once your leaky gut has been healed. They just help everything!
But not all probiotics are created equal…
I did my research and Ancient Nutrition is the real deal when it comes to healing leaky gut! Their products are high quality and they have a shelf-stable soil-based organism formula of probiotics specifically for gut restoration (including 17 probiotic strains specifically picked for the digestive tract).
These don’t need refrigeration and are better suited to not die off in the stomach and intestinal tract.
Besides a probiotic supplement, you can also incorporate more probiotic-rich foods into your diet such as: Yogurt, kefir, kombucha, sauerkraut, kimchi, or any lacto-fermented vegetable (which are super easy to make at home!)
A High Fiber Diet
Also, eating a high fiber diet rich in organic whole foods will eliminate toxins and nourish good bacteria in your gut.
Plenty of leafy greens like kale, spinach, and chard are great, as well as apples, carrots, and beets! Berries are also particularly high in fiber and low in carbs which makes then perfect for those on a ketogenic or low-carb diet.
Leaky Gut Treatments
As always, talk to your doctor or licensed healthcare professional before beginning this or any new health regime!
If you find out you have leaky gut syndrome, these diet changes with the addition of nutritional supplements should make a huge difference.
If they don’t, again, please consult a licensed healthcare professional.
Final Thoughts on Healing Leaking Gut Syndrome
Leaky gut syndrome was very real and uncomfortable for me. I’m glad I made the above diet changes, since I feel sooo much better!
If you feel you have leaky gut, but are uncertain, try making the dietary and supplement changes anyway, as they’ll only improve your health.
But, if you’d really like to know for sure, you can visit your doctor to take tests that can help you determine if you have leaky gut syndrome.
